Mental Health First Aid – Youth

Requisites: Age 18+ Prior to the in-person portion of the class participants must complete approx. 2 hours of pre-work online. We have limited seats -please commit to attending if you register.
Course includes: Workbook, access to the Mental Health First Aid course's online portal, Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) certificate, and lunch

Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens (18+) how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis.
Youth Mental Health First Aid for Youth is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people. The course introduces common mental health challenges experienced by youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations.
Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including ADHD), and eating disorders.
Those who successfully complete the class will earn a Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) certificate, which is valid for 3 years.
The full course consists of approx. 2-hours of self-paced online content, followed by 6 hours of training in person with 2 instructors, class discussions, videos, and small group scenario practice.
PLEASE NOTE: The approx. two hours of online self-paced pre-work must be completed before the in class session. You will receive an email with details on how to access the pre-work about 2 weeks prior to the in person class.
