Nelson, Technical Program Manager University of Minnesota Center for Transportation Studies Register at: https://umn.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6AnwJoLnQnHj9YO Who Should Attend Trucking entities that want to load to the maximum legal weight possible. Scale operators, farm truck owners and operators, aggregate haulers, truck manufacturers who configure truck axles and tires, township and county authorities who influence truck route weights, any company representative who influences the purchase or alteration of new trucks, out-of-state companies who need to understand and comply with Minnesota's legal weight limits, and truck driving students The Minnesota Truck-Weight Education Program addresses concerns from state, county, city, and township transportation authorities regarding damage from heavy trucks. Explanations are provided that explain road weights during various times of the year, including the winter load increase and spring load restrictions. The program promotes voluntary compliance to reduce damage to public roads and highways from overweight vehicles. The goal is to provide information and explanations to attendees on how to haul the most legal weight without violating the truck-weight laws. The program is updated as needed to reflect changes in truck-weight legislation. You'll learn about road-weight regulations during various times of the year, including the winter load increase and spring load restrictions. How trucks are configured—with proper axle spacing and tire size—makes a difference. . Topics Covered Update of road weight limits and differences between the state and local systems Laws governing gross weights, axle weights, tire weights, road-restriction weights, and seasonally increased (winter and harvest) weights Road damage issues: how overweight trucks cost us all Overweight truck issues go beyond gross and axle weights Classroom exercises to help you identify concerns in your own trucks What’s different in axle spacing? Do I have the right tires for the weight? Issues to consider when purchasing a new truck or altering a current truck Introduction and demonstration of the new Minnesota truck-weight calculator, an online resource to help training attendees determine weights based on vehicle configuration Instructors will provide professional, easy-to-understand take-home materials to assist you with your own configurations and options. The training is updated to reflect changes in truck-weight legislation. Space is limited to 35. If the location is not visible when clicking the registration button, the session has reached capacity. Please Note: This is not a “permitting” class for those who haul over-dimensional or overweight equipment that requires an oversize permit from either the state or county agencies. The class does cover the permit requirement for harvest and timber commodities and the 10 percent winter-load-increase (WLI) permit for trucks operating on Interstate highways. https://mnltap.umn.edu/training/catalog/truckweight

Description: End of Life Series - Meeting the Spiritual and Emotional Challenges of Aging April 23 | 11:30am-1pm | At CCHE Presenters: Rev. Anne Swallow Gillis, a retired United Church of Christ pastor and hospice chaplain and Care Partners of Cook County Board Member & Pat Campanaro and Suzanne Sherman, Cook County Death Doulas - A Better Death Workshop Description: In this final session of our End of Life series, The Rev. Anne Swallow Gillis invites us to explore some of the inner work around aging and dying. The outer work of wills, health care directives, and family conversations about end-of-life care are important. But there is also inner spiritual and emotional work that can help our transition from “young-old” to “old-old” and to our eventual dying. Our older years are often deemed successful if we stay busy, banish physical signs of aging, and somehow die quickly with little fuss or drain on resources. But our sense of identity and worth often shift as our physical and mental capacities diminish. Who are we when we are no longer productive in former ways? How do we face the challenges of this loss? Are there potential blessings in our aging? Religious traditions and spiritual practices around the world encourage reflection about our human purpose and worth, our ultimate hopes and darkest fears. It appears that learning to identify ourselves less with “doing” and more with “being,” developing a sense of reflective interiority, is the key to creative and even grace-filled aging. We are never too young to start this inner work! Our presenter, Anne, a retired United Church of Christ pastor and hospice chaplain, has long been fascinated by the complicated terrain of aging and dying. Currently a Board member of the Care Partners of Cook County, she enjoys engaging people of all ages in these tender, life-giving topics.
