The Violence Prevention Center (VPC) is hosting another annual Beyond the Reel film fundraising event in Grand Marais on Saturday February 1st at 5:30pm. This fundraiser is a way for the Violence Prevention Center to engage with our community and supporters, share updates about the organization, and honor the work our community does to foster a safer and more equitable Cook County all while raising funds for local survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
Each year the VPC chooses a film that speaks to the mission to foster a community which cultivates healthy relationships, empowers systems to serve individuals with equity and compassion, and does not tolerate violence. The film chosen for this year is Loud Enough - Surviving Justice. This film is a 2023 60-minute documentary produced by Emmy Award-Winning producers that dives into the retraumatization that many survivors of sexual and domestic abuse face navigating the justice system. Loud Enough is a compelling depiction of the reality of intimate partner violence and the hope and healing that comes with community support in navigating the pursuit of justice.
Please join the VPC in community at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts Saturday February 1st at 5:30pm for this powerful film screening. Tickets are $25 and are available at the door only. Student rates are available. The event begins at 5:30 with a social hour in the ACA lobby where guests will enjoy live music, food, refreshments, a raffle, and connection with like-minded members of our community. At 6:30, the event moves into the theater where staff and board members will share updates about the organization and award the annual Joan Drury Award to a community member that works toward promoting equity in Cook County before starting the hour-long film.
