In partnership with the Grand Marais Art Colony, Grand Portage National Monument has welcomed their first-ever Artist-in-Residence, Sofia Vanderlan. The community is invited to attend a demonstration of Sofia's beadwork artistry on September 5, at 10:30 AM at the Grand Marias Art Colony/Studio 1. Sofia will share an overview of her creative process, sources of inspiration, and the project she is creating during her residency. Attached is a photo of one of Sofia's beautiful pieces, titled Adik Odoodemokwewag (2025).
In addition to the demonstration, Sofia will also be available for visitor engagement at the Grand Portage National Monument Heritage Center (170 Mile Creek Rd) September 1-4, from 11AM-1PM. The Monument is fee-free, and all are welcome!
