Large gardens, homestead gardens, subsistence farms- there are lots of names, but the idea is the same: try to produce as much of your family’s food for the year as possible. Whether you have been gardening for years, or are just intrigued by the idea of trying to grow more of your own food, you are invited to join us for an afternoon of learning as we visit two homestead-scale gardens in Cook County. This is an opportunity to learn from fellow gardeners about how they have developed their garden spaces, strategies they use to extend the growing season, ways they work to build healthy soils, and more!
