Civics for Adults: Representation, Our Federal Government, and the Constitution
January 26 | 6:30pm-8pm | Zoom

Presenter: Donna L. Cohen, MLIS, ME, Civics for Adults

This session explores the origins of the Constitution, how its interpretation has shifted over time, and its structural limitations that shape our federal government. We’ll examine the current state of American democracy and revisit how the United States formed as a nation to better understand the foundations of our political system. The workshop is designed to help fill in gaps many of us may have, whether from not learning certain things in school, simply not remembering them or because of how our political structures have evolved, and to clarify some of the common myths that can make understanding our government more confusing. We will also consider whether our federal institutions truly represent us and whether changes to the Constitution or federal structures may be needed as we look toward the future.
