Community Read & Discussion: Native Love Jams
January 19 | 6-7pm | Zoom | Free Book *
Facilitator: Staci Drouillard, author of Walking the Old Road: A People’s History of Chippewa City and the Grand Marais Anishinaabe, Seven Aunts, and A Family Tree
Partners: Library Friends of Cook County, Grand Marais Public Library, and Drury Lane Book Store
Join us for a fun discussion of Native Love Jams, the debut contemporary romance by Tashia Hart, regional author of The Good Berry Cookbook: Harvesting and Cooking Wild Rice and Other Wild Foods.
Set in the picturesque community of Rainy Bay, Native Love Jams follows Winnow, a forager and cook hired to help launch the town’s first Indigenous Food Days. As she navigates her role, she faces both conflict and chemistry with her host, Niigaanii. Their story unfolds in a landscape of wild foods, simmering tensions, and blossoming connections. Can love grow amidst berry patches and tangled pasts?
This discussion, facilitated by celebrated local author Staci Drouillard, will dive into the themes of love, culture, food, the deep connections we share, and the land. Whether you’ve read the book or want to explore its themes with others, this is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Indigenous storytelling and foster meaningful conversations.
* Special Offer: Everyone is welcome to attend, and we’re excited to have you! Cook County residents who register can register for a FREE copy of Native Love Jams (available in digital or paperback) to ensure access for all community members.
Save the Date: Don’t miss the chance to join Tashia Hart for an in-person Author Talk on February 1 at 2:00 PM. Discover the stories behind her debut romance novel, Native Love Jams, and The Good Berry Cookbook, while also hearing about the impactful work of the Library Friends of Cook County in our community.
