Position Overview: The Violence Prevention Center (VPC) was founded in 1986, providing 40 years of direct support to victim/survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in Grand Marais, Grand Portage, and the surrounding region. The VPC has steadily grown in recent years, and is now hiring a part-time advocate to meet our increasing demand for client services and advocacy. The Part-Time Advocate will report to the Executive Director and work closely with the full-time Program Advocate. This role will be expected to work 3 days per week, following a consistent weekly schedule. The Part-Time Advocate will provide essential and critical support to clients, having responsibility for their own client caseload while also partnering with the Program Advocate on additional client support as needed.
Essential Functions:
Provide direct advocacy services to victims/survivors of domestic violence, sexual
assault, stalking, child abuse, elder abuse, teen dating violence, human trafficking, their families, and others affected by violence. Services include but are not limited to: Guidance on orders for protection; emotional support and safety planning; referrals to appropriate local agencies such as law enforcement, child protective services, attorneys and legal services; guidance on navigating the court system through hearings, processes, and preparation of materials; other advocacy as needed.
Build and cultivate effective community relationships and professional partnerships.
Maintain best practices in client confidentiality across record-keeping, community interactions, and all external engagement.
Provide 24-hour crisis line coverage as needed, not to exceed three on-call shifts per
month.
Participates in continuing education and training yearly.
Support Program Advocate with community outreach and education initiatives as needed.
Education, Experience, and Skills Required:
Bachelor’s degree with 2-3 years' advocacy experience or related field.
Demonstrated ability in supporting others through crisis and traumatic circumstances.
Experience in domestic violence/sexual assault/human trafficking programs preferred.
General computer skills, such as Google Docs, word processing, e-mail, etc., as well as
social media and web page maintenance.
Effective presentation and teaching skills.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Experience in working with a diversity of ethnic, economic/social backgrounds, sexual
orientations, and gender identities/expressions.

Compensation and Benefits:
This role will have a consistent, structured schedule of 3 days per week in-person at our office located
in Grand Marais, MN.
Hourly wage range from $25.00 - $31.00 hourly and commensurate with experience.
