Colleen Grace Koss, age 60, passed away unexpectedly in her home on May 9, 2025.

Born on September 21, 1964, in Cook County, Minnesota, Colleen was the daughter of Clayton and Nancy Koss. She was predeceased by her grandparents Nassau and Grace Koss, Carrie Savage, and Lubet and Louise Clevette, as well as her sister, Katie Ehlers and her husband Curt Ehlers.

Colleen is survived by her children, Joelle Schmid (Justin) and Clayton “CJ” Koss; her parents, Clayton and Nancy Koss; her brother, Gerald ‘Jerry’ Koss; her nephew, Samuel “Sam” Koss; her grandchildren, Cooper and Dylan Schmid; and her grandnephew, Archer Koss, and grandniece, Amelia Koss. She is also mourned by her close friends Karen and Anna, who were a source of comfort and companionship that brought her joy.

A graduate of Cook County High School in 1983, Colleen spent part of her early adulthood in Montana before returning to Minnesota. She had a deep love for fashion and self-expression, always finding joy in the way clothing could tell a story. Colleen also dedicated much of her life to helping others, working in various roles at Wesley Residence, HDC, and the Washington Center. Known for her nurturing nature, she was affectionately called “Mama C” by those in her life. She was proud to make a difference in the lives of the people around her.

A passionate cat lover, Colleen’s pets were always a source of joy and companionship in her life. This was a passion shared by her sister, Katie.
In honor of Colleen’s life, a celebration will be held on July 12, 2025 at Gramercy Park (4072 Haines Road, Duluth. There will be pictures, a short service, and then lunch.
In keeping with her vibrant spirit, the family kindly requests that no black clothing be worn. Please come dressed in colors that reflect the joy and life Colleen brought to those around her.
