With Brett Monahan
Students will be introduced to functional pottery making, starting with the basics of what clay is, why it’s such a unique substance, and how it has been used throughout history. Students will first learn basic hand-building techniques to get a feel for clay as a material. They will then work on the potter’s wheel, learning to center clay and form walls of bowls and cups. Brett will teach methods of finishing pots after they are thrown, and basic glazing and decoration techniques will be demonstrated.
Additional Open Studio Times
Students are welcome to work in the Ceramic Studio outside of class at the following times on an independent basis. Note that for open studios that fall on a student’s class day, the student is allowed to work right up to class. Otherwise, we request that studio users exit one hour before class time to allow the instructor time to set up.
