WTIP is seeking a dedicated and resourceful part-time reporter to join our
newsroom. The reporter will investigate and report on local stories, conduct
interviews, and deliver timely, accurate news across on-air and digital platforms.
The ideal candidate possesses a sharp news instinct, strong storytelling skills, and a
commitment to serving the public with informative and engaging content. The
reporter will help craft the sound of WTIP’s news and information programming,
and implement the overall vision of the station’s local news department.

REQUIRED SKILLS:
*Strong writing and communication skills: 
Ability to clearly and concisely convey complex information in
written and spoken formats.

*Journalistic ethics:
Understanding and upholding ethical standards in reporting, including
accuracy, fairness, and source verification.

* News judgment:
Ability to identify important stories, assess their newsworthiness, and
prioritize coverage.

*Curiosity and critical thinking:
A strong desire to investigate stories, analyze information, and ask
probing questions.

*Proficiency with software and tools:
 Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat or similar audio editing
software and social media platforms.

*Flexibility: 
Ability to adapt to a face paced environment and cover breaking news
when needed. Availability to cover breaking news or events in the
evenings or on weekends as needed.

*Dependability: 
Self-starter with a strong work ethic and attention to detail.

EXPERIENCE: 
Journalism degree or experience in broadcast production, web content, news
writing and news editing, a plus

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
*Investigative reporting:
Researching and gathering information through interviews, document
review, and on-location reporting to develop in-depth stories.

*News coverage:
Reporter Covering breaking news events, local happenings, and important
community issues. 

*Collaboration: 
maintain the station's standards for news coverage.

PAY, HOURS & LOCATION:
This part-time position is approximately 20 hours per week, M-F, with occasional
weekends and special events. Pay range is $18-$22 per hour. Pay rate is
commensurate with skills and experience. Work will take place at the WTIP main
station located at:

Cook County Community Radio (WTIP) is the oldest community radio station
broadcasting on the North Shore of Lake Superior. Visitors and residents spread
out over 1,500 square miles of woods and waters come together through WTIP, a
501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides an arena for information-gathering,
discussion, and expression.
