Librarian I – Adult Services Librarian Date Posted: Tuesday, August 19, 2025 Department: Library Compensation: $23.66 per hour Hours: 40 hours per week – Full Time Deadline: First review of applications is September 6, 2025 Position Objectives: The Grand Marais Public Library is seeking a dedicated, community-focused Adult Services Librarian to join our team in a Librarian I capacity. This position plays a crucial role in promoting lifelong learning and access to information for adult library users. The Adult Services Librarian will be responsible for providing engaging, inclusive library services to adults, as well as assisting with the development of programs and services for a wide range of patrons. Duties and Responsibilities: Our Librarian I position supports the successful operation of the library by performing a broad range of services for the public starting with direct customer service at the front desk and leading up to assisting with long range planning. The Librarian I may develop and facilitate programs, purchase materials for the collection, maintain the library’s social media platforms, create publicity and marketing materials, and classify and catalog library materials primarily within its focus area—in this case, adult services. Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree. One year of experience working with the public. Applicants should demonstrate the ability to interact effectively with a diverse range of patrons; knowledge of library materials and classification systems; attention to detail; proficiency in modern technology; and the ability to plan, schedule, and organize tasks. The ideal candidate will also be capable of working both independently and as part of a team, training and supervising staff, and performing clerical tasks such as word processing, photocopying, emailing, and using internet tools. Desirable Training and Experience: Professional experience as an adult services librarian, or transferable experience in adult education or community engagement. Other work experience in public library environments; high level of computer and digital literacy; experience classifying and cataloging library materials.
