Community Wood Firing
Aug. 13th - 14th
Visiting artist and kiln builder, Henry Crissman will be on site with us in August and anyone interested is invited to come observe the kiln at work! This is a two-day, all day event so stop by when you can and see the magic of wood firing live and in process.
For those who have pre-made work and would like to reserve space in the firing, reach out to ceramics@grandmaraisartcolony.org. The fee for firing work is signing up for a slot to support the firing with your enthusiastic physical labor.
Empty Bowls Open Studios
Aug. 19th & 26th | 1pm - 4pm
Every year our studio members and broader clay community make about 200 bowls to donate to the Empty Bowls fundraiser for food insecurity programs in Cook County. We’re opening our clay studio doors to anyone who wants to be part of the effort and learn some new skills. These open studio dates are for hand building only (slabs, coils, pinch, etc) so there’s no experience required. We are hoping that everyone who is interested can come try out making a few bowls with clay. We will have some pre-defined projects outlined but participants are encouraged to try out other ideas as they please.
